About
Mark Fisher and Jackie Pryce: A Journey Through Music and Time
Jackie’s story
Jackie, a seasoned vocalist and songwriter, embarked on her musical odyssey at the tender age of 19. It was 1985 when she lent her powerful voice to her first rock band, igniting a passion that would shape her artistic path – and where she honed her craft as her musical journey unfolded in rehearsal rooms, gigs and recording studios. This extensive experience became her ally, along with a dedication to vocal health and training.
The Beginning
From the age of 12, she had already graced the stage of amateur dramatic productions. The footlights continued to beckon, and Jackie danced and sang through the decadence of Cabaret and the melodies of South Pacific as a member of the Fareham Musical Society. In 2002, the spotlight shone brightly on her as she clinched the Best Supporting Actress award at the Curtain Call Awards for her portrayal of Jane McFudd in Irene.
The Poet
From an early age, her poems and lyrics became the heartbeat of her musical projects, infusing them with raw emotion and vivid imagery. Today, as the curtain rises once more, Jackie stands at the intersection of passion and legacy. Her voice continues to echo across stages, and with every new composition, she weaves a thread connecting hearts and emotions - a testament to the power of her music.
Mark’s Story
Mark, a self-taught guitarist and musician, embarked on a remarkable musical journey that spanned decades and genres.
Early Days and the NWOBHM Scene
At the tender age of 23, Mark secured his first record contract with Amidisque, a pivotal moment that would shape his musical trajectory. As a member of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM) band Voltz, Mark honed his skills and carved out his place in the vibrant 1980s music scene. It was during this time that he cut his songwriting teeth, contributing to Voltz’s acclaimed album, Knights Fall.
Rocking the Stage
Voltz wasn’t just about studio work; they took their electrifying sound to live audiences across the UK. The Café Rock in Paris became a second home, where Mark and his bandmates poured their hearts into every chord. But it was the prestigious venues back in London that truly defined their legacy. The Marquee Club and the historic Clarendon Hotel witnessed Voltz’s explosive performances, solidifying their place in rock history.
A New Chapter
As the 1980s ended, Mark faced a pivotal decision. Family responsibilities beckoned, and he stepped away from the music scene. But the fire within him never waned. During this hiatus, Mark explored new avenues, reinventing his musical identity. The acoustic guitar became his canvas, and he drew inspiration from luminaries like John Martyn, Joan Armatrading, and James Taylor. Their soulful melodies and poetic lyrics fuelled Mark’s creative resurgence.
Reunion and Collaboration
In a serendipitous twist, fate reunited Mark with an old acquaintance. In 2004, he crossed paths with Jackie, another veteran of the '80s music scene. Their shared memories of recording at Shepperton Studios sparked a renewed passion. Both hungry for musical expression, they embarked on a songwriting journey together. Mark’s intricate playing style, infused with modal ideas, provided a rich harmonic tapestry for Jackie’s emotive lyrics and melodies. Thus, Maud’s Dog was born - a fusion of experience, emotion, and artistic synergy.
The Sound of Maud’s Dog
Mark’s guitar interlaces melodic patterns around soul-stirring chord progressions, giving life to Jackie’s lyrics that echo the highs and lows of life. As Maud’s Dog, they explore uncharted territories, blending nostalgia with fresh perspectives. Their music transcends time, inviting listeners to join them in poetic stories of emotion and introspection.
